Ping is a family run company and its founder Jarsten Solhiem was originally an engineer with General Electric.
How did the name Ping originate?
Karsten was frustrated with his putting game and fed up with his putter at the time he went about inventing a putter in his garage. What he came up with was the Ping 1A. When Karsten struck the ball with his newly designed putter it made a Ping sound hence the name Ping. Karsten revolutionised the putter market with his heel toe weight design. Sports Illustrated named the Ping 1A putter the "Musical Putter" due to its sweet sound when struck. Over the years, Karsten developed his club making abilities to Irons and Drivers and today we have him to thank for the great quality and performance we know as Ping Golf. Ping is still a family run business with his sons now MD'S of the company.
